Grace be to you all and peace from God our Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ. We write this epistle unto edification of all the brethren concerning Psalm 119. This is a very powerful psalm devoted to the Word of God. By this psalm, we understand that as God desires to bless us as His children and work in us to will and do of His good pleasure, we also can bless God and make Him blessed and happy. We have divided this Psalm into 22 sections of 8 verses each. In these verses, we not only have the blessed man; we also have the blessed God. Man is blessed by God when he does the following: walk undefiled in his way (Psa 119:1), walk in the law of the Lord (v 1), keep the testimonies of God (v 2), seek God with his whole heart (v 2), do no iniquity (v 3), and walk in the ways of God (v 3). God is blessed when man meets His terms of reconciliation and walks as one that is blessed. He is happy when fallen man comes to his senses, repents of his sins, and consecrates himself unto Him and His Word.

A study of the 22 divisions of this psalm shows why God can be termed as blessed (happy). We have listed these below:

God is happy when:

  1. Man has attained to the heights of character and godliness like God Himself (Psa 119:1-8)
  2. Man is enquiring as to how to rid himself of sin, and is working diligently to live for God (Psa 119:9-16)
  3. Man is earnestly seeking enlightenment from God and His Word so as to follow the whole will of God (Psa 119:17-24)
  4. Man humbles himself to walk in the light of God?s Word, propagates truth, removes lying and deceit, chooses the way of truth, and sticks to God?s way of life (Psa 119:25-32)
  5. Man whole-heartedly prays for the fulfillment of the blessings of God?s Word through obedience to known truth (Psa 119:33-40)
  6. Man seeks for salvation by the Word of God and consecrates himself to a life of faith in God, obedience to His Word, and faithful service in evangelizing the world (Psa 119:41-48)
  7. Man finds his comfort and hope only in God and His Word in times of trouble or blessing, and abhors sin and backsliding all his days (Psa 119:49-56)
  8. Man is fully satisfied with God and His Word as his portion in life, and ever goes deeper in grace and the spiritual life (Psa 119:57-64)
  9. Man learns well the lessons of the chastening power of the Word of God, and conforms to God?s corrections (Psa 119:65-72)
  10. Man learns the true righteousness of God and His Word, and delights in His precepts (Psa 119:73-80)
  11. Man longs for God?s salvation, hopes in God?s Word, and becomes stable in the faith (Psa 119:81-88
  12. Man recognizes that God?s Word is eternal, that His faithfulness to all generations, His plan for the heavens, the earth and all the society therein has no end, and the entire curse will be removed and creation made perfect forever (Psa 119:89-96)
  13. Man, following the example of the Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ, learns that the true source of wisdom and knowledge is God and His Word (Psa 119:97-104)
  14. Man acknowledges God?s Word to be his guide and light in life, and refuses to err from its truths eternally (Psa 119:105-112)
  15. Man rests in the security of God?s Word, and lives in fear of transgression of truth (Psa 119:113-120)
  16. Man does judgment and justice according to God?s Word, and has confidence in the results of blessing and cursing as being in God?s hands (Psa 119:121-128)
  17. Man has faith in God?s Word as the source of light, and prays for guidance to walk therein (Psa 119:129-136)
  18. Man realizes the true character of God?s Word as being altogether pure and righteous, and conforms his life accordingly (Psa 119:137-144)
  19. Man depends upon God?s Word as the source of strength in life and conduct (Psa 119:145-152)
  20. Man looks to God and His Word as the source of salvation and deliverance from sin, sickness, and trouble (Psa 119:153-160)
  21. Man marvels at God?s Word, and has peace in the midst of turmoil (Psa 119:161-168)
  22. Man prays whole-heartedly in harmony with God?s Word and rests content in its salvation and blessings (Psa 119:169-176)

These are the things which make God happy. There is even rejoicing over one sinner that repents; how much more rejoicing must there be when men make God blessed by the above acts (Luke. 15:7, 10). Therefore if any man desires to please God, let him separate himself unto God and His Word. Let him be filled with God?s Word at all times. Let him also be filled with the Holy Spirit who almost always works in us through the Word of God that is in us. By these deeds great faith comes, such a kind that moves mountains. And by faith, God is pleased. Therefore, how blessed shall you all be from henceforth if put these things to practice? Grace be to you all.
